Whatnot takes an 8% commission on the item price for most sellers, plus payment processing of 2.9% of the order total and $0.30 per order. On 21 September 2026 the flat 8% became a tiered system: sellers with higher sales over the last 28 days now pay a lower commission, and the rate depends on the category.
Many fee guides and calculators online still say "8% flat". That's only true for sellers in the Standard tier. Pick your category and tier in the Whatnot calculator above to see your real numbers; it covers the US, Canada and Australia. Enter what you paid for the item and it shows profit, margin and ROI too. If you know the payout you want, the "What price to list at" mode works backwards to a starting price.
Whatnot seller fees in the US
| Fee | How it is charged (US) |
|---|---|
| Commission | 8% for most categories at the Standard tier (4% for coins), lower at higher 28-day sales tiers, charged on the item price only |
| Commission | As above, but only on the first 1,500 of the order |
| Payment processing | 2.9% of the full order total (item, shipping and tax) |
| Payment processing (fixed part) | $0.30 per order |
The two fees use different bases, which is where most hand calculations go wrong:
- Commission is charged on the sale price only. Buyer-paid shipping and sales tax are excluded.
- Processing is charged on everything the buyer pays: item, shipping and tax. Tiers and promotions don't reduce it.
| Sale price | Total fees | Fees as % of price | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $1.39 | 13.9% | $8.61 |
| $25.00 | $3.03 | 12.1% | $21.98 |
| $50.00 | $5.75 | 11.5% | $44.25 |
| $100.00 | $11.20 | 11.2% | $88.80 |
| $250.00 | $27.55 | 11.0% | $222.45 |
Default settings, no sales tax, no optional fees.
How Whatnot's new 2026 fee tiers work
Your tier comes from your total sales in the previous 28-day period. Whatnot counts the sale price of completed orders across every category, live shows and marketplace listings together. The rate you qualify for is then locked for the whole of the next period, so a big weekend mid-period doesn't change your rate until the next one starts.
New sellers start on Standard. The category that sets your rate is the show's category for live sales and the product's category for marketplace sales. Here are the US Whatnot commission rates in effect since 21 September 2026:
| Tier (28-day sales) | Sports | Trading card games | Fashion | Other collectibles | Coins and money | Everything else |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (under $15k) | 8% | 8% | 8% | 8% | 4% | 8% |
| Tier 1 ($15k to $35k) | 7.75% | 7.75% | 7% | 7.25% | 3.9% | 7% |
| Tier 2 ($35k to $50k) | 7.5% | 7.5% | 6.5% | 6.5% | 3.8% | 6.5% |
| Tier 3 ($50k to $100k) | 7.25% | 7.25% | 5.5% | 6% | 3.7% | 5.5% |
| Tier 4 ($100k to $250k) | 7% | 7% | 5% | 5% | 3.6% | 4% |
| Tier 5 ($250k to $500k) | 6.75% | 6.75% | 4.5% | 5% | 3.55% | 4% |
| Tier 6 ($500k+) | 6.5% | 6.5% | 4.5% | 5% | 3.5% | 4% |
Two things stand out. Sports and trading cards barely move, falling only to 6.5% at the top. Fashion and general categories drop much faster: a fashion seller doing $60,000 in 28 days pays 5.5%, so a $100 jacket costs $5.50 in commission instead of $8.
A few sellers get rates outside the table. Top sellers with an account manager can have custom rates as low as 3%, and promotional rates such as new-seller offers replace the tier rate while they run. Premier Shop sellers get 10% off their commission rate (5% becomes 4.5%) through 31 October 2026; that discount ends on 1 November.
Worked example: $50 card, $5 shipping, $4 tax
- Commission at Standard: 8% of $50 = $4.00.
- Processing: 2.9% of $59 = $1.71, plus $0.30 = $2.01.
- Total fees: $6.01. You earn $43.99 on the item.
Buyer-paid shipping normally goes toward the Whatnot shipping label rather than to you, and the $4 tax is remitted by Whatnot. That's why the calculator doesn't add shipping to your payout.
0% commission above $1,500
Whatnot is running a limited-time rule, in place since 14 January 2026 with no published end date, that charges no commission on the part of a single order above $1,500. It covers Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards, Sports Singles subcategories, and since 4 June 2026 Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches. Sports breaks and Surprise Products are excluded.
On a $2,000 graded card at Standard, commission is 8% of $1,500, so $120 rather than $160. Processing still runs on the full amount: 2.9% of $2,000 plus $0.30 is $58.30.
Whatnot fee calculator for Canada
Canada uses the same commission rates as the US, but the tiers start lower: Standard is under C$10,000, then C$10k, C$20k, C$35k, C$50k, C$65k and C$85k+. Processing is 2.9% plus 0.30 on the full order. Whatnot writes "$0.30" for all three countries and doesn't say whether that means C$ for Canadian orders.
The $1,500 high-value rule lists thresholds in several currencies, but not CAD, so it's unclear whether it applies to Canadian sales. Canadian sales tax on Whatnot's own fees is applied "in some cases", according to Whatnot's Canada tax guide, which isn't specific enough to model. The calculator leaves it out.
| Sale price | Total fees | Fees as % of price | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| C$25.00 | C$3.03 | 12.1% | C$21.98 |
| C$50.00 | C$5.75 | 11.5% | C$44.25 |
| C$100.00 | C$11.20 | 11.2% | C$88.80 |
Default settings, no sales tax, no optional fees.
Whatnot fee calculator for Australia
Australia has its own thresholds: under A$10k, then A$10k, A$20k, A$35k, A$70k, A$100k and A$130k+. Most rates match the US table, but Sports and trading card games fall further at the top:
| Tier | Sports and trading cards (AU) |
|---|---|
| Standard | 8% |
| Tier 1 | 7.75% |
| Tier 2 | 7% |
| Tier 3 | 6.75% |
| Tier 4 | 6.5% |
| Tier 5 | 6.25% |
| Tier 6 | 6% |
If you aren't registered for GST, Whatnot adds 10% GST to its fees. On an A$50 item with A$5 shipping, commission plus GST is A$4.40 and processing plus GST is about A$2.08, leaving about A$43.52. Sellers registered for GST with an ABN don't pay it. Australian fashion sellers also get 0% commission from 18 to 24 October 2026 under a one-week promotion.
Common questions
What percentage does Whatnot take?
At the Standard tier, 8% of the item price (4% for coins and money) plus 2.9% of the order total and $0.30. On a $100 sale with no shipping or tax that's $11.20, or 11.2%.
Did Whatnot fees change in 2026?
Yes. On 21 September 2026 the flat 8% commission was replaced by tiers based on your previous 28 days of sales, with different rates per category.
Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?
No. Commission is on the sale price only. Processing, though, includes shipping and tax.
Is sales tax charged on Whatnot fees?
In some states, automatically. Whatnot taxes commission in DC, Hawaii, New Mexico and West Virginia, and processing in Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas and West Virginia. The calculator doesn't add this.
Selling in Britain? UK Whatnot fees use lower base rates in pounds, with 20% VAT added if you aren't VAT-registered. The Whatnot UK calculator handles that. Card sellers comparing platforms can check the eBay trading card calculator.
