Mercari Fee Calculator: What You Keep After the 10% Selling Fee

Mercari takes 10% of the item price plus whatever shipping the buyer pays. Put in your price and shipping to see what lands in your balance.

What percentage does Mercari charge?

Mercari's selling fee is 10%. It's charged on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, and there is no separate payment processing fee on top. A $40 item with free shipping costs you $4.00 in fees.

To see your number, enter the sale price in the Mercari fee calculator above and, if the buyer is paying for the label, the shipping amount. It returns the selling fee and your earnings, with an option for the Instant Pay charge if you plan to cash out to a debit card.

Every fee involved in a Mercari sale, including the one the buyer pays:

FeeHow it is charged (US)
Selling fee10% of the item price plus shipping
Instant Pay fee$3 per order. Per Instant Pay transfer. Direct deposit is free.
Buyer Protection fee (buyer pays)3.6% of the item price plus shipping

Mercari selling fees by price

With seller-paid (free to the buyer) shipping, the fee is a straight 10% at every price:

Sale priceTotal feesFees as % of priceYou receive
$10.00$1.0010.0%$9.00
$25.00$2.5010.0%$22.50
$50.00$5.0010.0%$45.00
$100.00$10.0010.0%$90.00
$250.00$25.0010.0%$225.00

Default settings, no sales tax, no optional fees.

There's no minimum fee listed on Mercari's fee page, so a cheap item isn't hit with a flat charge the way it is on some other apps. A $10 sale costs $1.00. What hurts cheap items on Mercari is shipping, not commission.

How shipping changes the fee

This is where people get confused. When the buyer pays shipping, Mercari adds that shipping to the amount it takes 10% from. Your earnings don't include the shipping, because that money pays for the label.

Take a $50 item where the buyer pays $8 for shipping:

  • Selling fee: 10% of ($50 + $8) = $5.80
  • Your earnings: $50 − $5.80 = $44.20

Now the same item with free shipping that you cover:

  • Selling fee: 10% of $50 = $5.00
  • Your earnings: $45.00, minus the cost of the prepaid label

So buyer-paid shipping costs you 10% of the shipping amount in extra fees, and seller-paid shipping costs you the full label. Which is cheaper depends on the label price. Mercari's label rates vary by carrier and weight, and a new rate table takes effect on October 19, 2026, so check the current rates in the app before you list.

If you offer free shipping, the calculator's payout doesn't subtract your postage. Type the label cost into "Your postage cost", along with what you paid for the item, and the Mercari calculator takes it off in the profit line, with margin and ROI next to it.

The Mercari buyer fee

Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of the item price plus shipping. It's charged to the buyer at checkout and doesn't come out of your earnings. On the $50 item with $8 shipping above, the buyer pays 3.6% of $58, which is $2.09, on top of the $58.

It still matters to you as a seller, because buyers see the total. A buyer comparing your listing with the same item elsewhere is comparing your price plus shipping plus 3.6%. Mercari says the fee may not be refunded on a return, depending on the reason.

Mercari Instant Pay fee and direct deposit

Getting your money out has two options:

MethodCostLimits
Direct Deposit to your bankFree ($2 if a deposit fails)None listed
Instant Pay to a debit card$3 per transferUp to $600 a month, once per day

The $3 is per cash-out, not per sale. On a single $15 sale it's a big bite: $1.50 selling fee plus $3 Instant Pay leaves $10.50. If you let several sales build up and move them in one transfer, the same $3 is spread across all of them. Or skip it and use Direct Deposit, which has been free since January 6, 2025. A failed deposit (wrong account number, closed account) costs $2, so double-check your bank details.

What changed in 2025

The current Mercari fees date from January 6, 2025. Before that, sellers paid a payment processing fee of 2.9% plus $0.50 per sale, and Direct Deposit cost $2. Mercari dropped both, set the seller fee at a flat 10% of item plus buyer-paid shipping, and turned the buyer charge into the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee. Older listings that hadn't been edited were moved to the new fee automatically.

Any guide that still mentions a Mercari processing fee or a $2 charge for Direct Deposit is describing the old structure.

Keeping more of each Mercari sale

  • Compare label costs with buyer-paid shipping. For light items, a cheap label you pay may beat adding shipping to the fee base. For heavy ones, letting the buyer pay is usually better.
  • Batch your cash-outs. One $3 Instant Pay on $200 of sales is 1.5%. Three separate $3 transfers on $60 is 15%.
  • Weigh items before choosing a label. Label prices step up with weight, so a scale saves you from paying for a heavier tier than you need.
  • Price with the buyer's 3.6% in mind. Your listing will show up more expensive at checkout than the number you typed.

Common questions

How much does Mercari take from a $100 sale?

$10.00 if you offer free shipping, leaving $90.00 before the label. If the buyer pays $10 shipping, the fee is $11.00 and you keep $89.00.

Does Mercari charge a fee on shipping?

Yes, when the buyer pays it. The 10% applies to the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. When you offer free shipping, the fee is on the item price only.

Is there a Mercari payment processing fee?

Not anymore. Mercari removed it on January 6, 2025. The 10% selling fee is the only commission.

How is Mercari different from Poshmark?

Mercari takes 10% where Poshmark takes 20% on sales of $15 and up, but the Mercari fee can include shipping and its buyers pay an extra 3.6%. The Poshmark vs Mercari comparison puts both payouts side by side, and eBay vs Mercari does the same for eBay.
