Depop vs eBay: Selling Fees, Payouts and Which Keeps More for You

Depop vs eBay in the US: Depop has no selling fee, and eBay takes 13.6% of the order. In the UK, eBay is free for private sellers. Put in your price to see what each one pays you.

In the US, Depop leaves you more money. Say you sell a $40 jacket with no shipping or tax. Depop keeps $1.77 and you get $38.23. eBay keeps $5.84 and you get $34.16. Depop has had no selling fee since 2024. eBay still takes 13.6% of each order. In the UK it works the other way, as you'll see below.

Put your own price in the calculator above. Add shipping and sales tax if you know them. Both change the fees.

Depop vs eBay fees, side by side

Depop takes no selling fee from US sellers. You pay for payment processing only. That's 3.3% of the order plus $0.45, and the order includes shipping and tax. A boosted sale adds 12% of the item price.

eBay works on a final value fee. Clothing and most other items pay 13.6% of the whole order. Shipping and sales tax are part of that order. On top comes $0.40 per order, or $0.30 for orders of $10 or less.

With no shipping or tax, the two payouts compare like this:

Sale priceDepop feeDepop pays youeBay feeeBay pays you
$10.00$0.78$9.22$1.66$8.34
$25.00$1.28$23.73$3.80$21.20
$40.00$1.77$38.23$5.84$34.16
$100.00$3.75$96.25$14.00$86.00
$250.00$8.70$241.30$34.40$215.60

Standard settings, free shipping to the buyer, no sales tax.

The gap grows with the price. On a $100 sale, Depop sends you $96.25 and eBay sends you $86.00.

Depop fees vs eBay once you add shipping and tax

Take the same $40 jacket with $6 buyer-paid shipping and 8% sales tax. Depop's processing comes to $2.09. eBay's fees come to $7.16, because its 13.6% covers the shipping and the tax as well. Both sites pass the shipping money to you, and it then pays for the label.

So tax and shipping make the eBay side more expensive. Depop's percentage is far smaller, which keeps the extra cost low.

When eBay pays more than Depop

Boosting is the main case. If that $40 sale came through a boosted Depop listing, the 12% boosting fee lifts Depop's fees to $6.57 and you get $33.43. eBay would have paid you $34.16 with no ads. You only pay the boost if the buyer saw or tapped your boosted listing and bought within 28 days.

eBay can also win on price rather than on fees. If an item sells for clearly more on eBay, run both prices through the calculator above and compare what you keep.

Depop vs eBay for selling clothes

Clothes sit in eBay's standard 13.6% group, so there is no clothing discount on eBay. On Depop, clothing pays the same 3.3% plus $0.45 as anything else. That makes Depop the cheaper of the two for clothes in the US, unless you boost.

Who buys matters too. Depop's buyers mostly shop for secondhand fashion and vintage styles. eBay has a much wider audience across every category. A piece that would sit for weeks on Depop may sell faster on eBay, even after the higher fee.

Depop vs eBay in the UK

In the UK the answer flips for private sellers. eBay charges them no final value fee, so a £20 sale pays you the full £20.00. Depop keeps 88p for processing and pays you £19.12.

The buyer covers the cost on both sites instead. On that £20 item, an eBay buyer pays £21.50 including the Buyer Protection fee. A Depop buyer pays up to £22.00 with its Marketplace fee. Business sellers on eBay UK do pay fees, and the eBay UK fee calculator covers those.

Common questions

Is Depop better than eBay?

For US fees, yes. Depop takes 3.3% plus $0.45. eBay takes 13.6% plus $0.40. So Depop pays more unless you boost. eBay can still win if your item gets a higher price there.

Should I use eBay or Depop in the UK?

For a private seller the two are close. eBay charges you nothing, and Depop takes 2.9% plus 30p. So eBay is slightly ahead. Pick the site where your item actually sells.

Depop or eBay for cheap items?

Depop wins here. A $10 sale costs $0.78 on Depop and $1.66 on eBay. You keep $9.22 on Depop and $8.34 on eBay.

Does eBay vs Depop change what the buyer pays?

Yes, a little. Depop adds a Marketplace fee for US buyers, up to 5% plus up to $1. eBay has no buyer fee on US sales. A Depop buyer can end up paying a bit more for the same tag price.
