A UK Etsy seller pays a 6.5% transaction fee, a 4% plus 20p payment processing fee, a 0.48% regulatory operating fee and a listing fee of about 15p. If you haven't given Etsy a VAT number, 20% VAT is added to all of it, so a £30 item with £5 postage costs about £5.03 in fees.
The calculator above uses those UK rates. Set the VAT option to match your account and add any postage you charge. Put in what the item cost you to see profit, margin and ROI, or switch to "What price to list at" to work back from the payout you want.
Etsy fees UK: the full list
| Fee | How it is charged (UK) |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 USD per listing, charged again when a listing renews or sells another unit (about £0.15 at recent exchange rates) |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of the item price plus shipping |
| Payment processing fee | 4% of the full order total (item, shipping and tax) |
| Payment processing fee (fixed part) | £0.20 per order |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.48% of the item price plus shipping |
| Offsite Ads fee | your chosen rate, charged on the item price plus shipping. Only when a sale comes from an Etsy ad on another site. Capped at $100 USD per order. |
Two of those fees are higher than a US shop pays. Processing is 4% plus 20p here against 3% plus 25 cents in the US, and US sellers have no regulatory operating fee. VAT on fees is the other big difference, and it's covered below.
How to work out Etsy fees in the UK
Work out 6.5% (transaction), 4% (processing) and 0.48% (regulatory operating fee) of the item price plus postage, and add 20p. Then add the listing fee of about 15p, and 20% VAT on the total if Etsy has no VAT number for you.
Here's how that plays out on a £30 order with £5 postage, sold in the UK by a seller with no VAT number on file:
- Listing fee: about £0.15.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of £35 (item plus postage) = £2.28.
- Processing fee: 4% of £35 = £1.40, plus 20p = £1.60.
- Regulatory operating fee: 0.48% of £35 = £0.17.
- Subtotal: £4.19.
- VAT at 20%: £0.84, giving £5.03 in total.
You receive £35 minus £5.03, which is £29.97, and the postage label comes out of that. With a VAT number on your Etsy account, fees stop at £4.19 and you keep £30.81.
| Sale price | Total fees | Fees as % of price | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| £5.00 | £1.08 | 21.6% | £3.92 |
| £10.00 | £1.74 | 17.4% | £8.26 |
| £20.00 | £3.06 | 15.3% | £16.94 |
| £35.00 | £5.03 | 14.4% | £29.97 |
| £50.00 | £7.01 | 14.0% | £42.99 |
| £100.00 | £13.60 | 13.6% | £86.40 |

What is the regulatory operating fee on Etsy?
It's a 0.48% charge on every UK order, worked out on the item price plus postage, gift wrap and personalization. Tax that Etsy collects itself isn't included.
The rate went up from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026, alongside increases in France, Italy and Spain. On a £35 order it's 17p, so it's small, but VAT is charged on it too. The fee change log lists every recent Etsy change.
Etsy VAT on fees
All of Etsy's seller fees are quoted without VAT. What happens next depends on whether Etsy has your VAT number:
- No VAT number given: Etsy adds 20% UK VAT to your fees. This is the default for sellers who aren't VAT-registered.
- VAT number given: Etsy doesn't charge VAT on its fees, and you deal with it under the reverse charge in your own VAT return.
The calculator's VAT option switches between these. On a £10 item, the difference is £1.74 in fees with VAT and £1.45 without.
Etsy listing fee in pounds
Etsy sets the listing fee in US dollars: $0.20 per listing, converted to pounds at the market rate when you're charged. At recent exchange rates that's roughly 15p, but it drifts with the dollar. Listings last four months and renew automatically at the same price. A listing with several in stock renews, and charges again, for each extra unit sold.
Printables and other digital files pay the same fees in pounds but no postage, so a cheap download feels the 20p and the listing fee much more. The Etsy digital downloads calculator shows how that plays out at low prices.
Offsite Ads for UK shops
If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another website and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of the item price plus postage if your shop sold under $10,000 USD in the past year, or 12% once you've passed that. The threshold and the cap are both in dollars: the fee can't go above $100 USD per order. For UK sellers, the Offsite Ads base includes any VAT that's built into your listing price. VAT is then added to the Offsite Ads fee itself if Etsy doesn't have your VAT number.
Shops under the $10,000 threshold can opt out. Once you pass it, you're in for good at 12%.
VAT you charge buyers vs VAT on fees
These are separate. If you're VAT-registered, your listing prices should include the VAT you owe on your sales, and the 6.5% transaction fee is charged on that VAT-inclusive price. Etsy's VAT on fees is a different charge, on top of Etsy's own fees, and only applies if you haven't given Etsy a VAT number.
For international orders where Etsy collects tax from the buyer itself, that tax is left out of the transaction fee and regulatory operating fee. The processing fee is worked out on the gross order amount, including tax.
Avoiding the currency conversion fee
If your listings are priced in dollars but your bank account is in pounds, Etsy charges 2.5% to convert each sale. Set your shop currency to GBP and the charge disappears.
Common questions
How much does Etsy take in the UK?
On orders between £20 and £50, about 14% to 15% of the order value with VAT on fees, or 12% to 13% without. Low-priced items lose a bigger share to the fixed 20p and listing fee.
Is the Etsy fee calculator UK 2026 rate different from last year?
The regulatory operating fee rose from 0.32% to 0.48% in June 2026. The transaction, processing and listing fees didn't change.
Do I pay VAT on Etsy fees as a hobby seller?
Yes, if you haven't given Etsy a VAT number. That's the default setting in the calculator.
How do Etsy UK fees compare with eBay UK?
UK private sellers on eBay pay no final value fee, but eBay's buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee. See the eBay UK fee calculator, or the main Etsy fee calculator for US, Canadian and Australian shops.
