Sell a $50 item on eBay Live with no shipping or tax and you'll keep $45.25. eBay takes $4.75 of it. Those eBay Live fees are a 6% commission plus payment processing of 2.9% and $0.30 an order. Coins, bullion and athletic shoes get a lower 4% commission, and the commission on any one item never goes past $100.
Shipping and sales tax count toward eBay Live seller fees too, so put them in the eBay Live fee calculator above if you know them.
What eBay Live seller fees cover
| Fee | How it is charged (US) |
|---|---|
| Commission | 6% of the full order total (item, shipping and tax) (maximum $100). Most categories, per item. |
| Commission | 4% of the full order total (item, shipping and tax) (maximum $100). Coins & Paper Money (incl. bullion) and men's and women's athletic shoes, per item. |
| Payment processing | 2.9% of the full order total (item, shipping and tax) |
| Per-order fee | $0.30 per order. Items priced over $10. |
| Per-order fee | $0.10 per order. Items priced $10 or less (eBay promotion through 31 Dec 2026). |
eBay works out these fees on the total sale. That means the item price plus shipping, handling and sales tax. Its pricing page lists commission and processing as two lines, but your account shows them added together as one final value fee.
Listing for a Live show costs nothing, because eBay Live has no insertion fee. If you move a regular eBay listing into a Live event, eBay refunds the insertion fee you paid within 30 days.

On a $100 sale eBay Live keeps $9.20, made up of $6.00 commission, $2.90 processing and the $0.30 order fee. Over $10, expect to give up a little more than 9 cents of each dollar.
How much commission does eBay Live take?
Most categories pay 6% commission. Coins and paper money, bullion, and men's and women's athletic shoes pay 4%. Both rates are charged on the full total, shipping and tax included.
A $200 pair of sneakers sold with no shipping or tax pays $8.00 commission at 4%. At the 6% rate it would have been $12. After $5.80 processing and $0.30 for the order, $185.90 is yours.
The $100 commission cap
Expensive items get a break, since eBay Live stops charging commission at $100 per item. With the 6% rate you reach that point once the total sale passes roughly $1,667. Past it, you only pay more through the 2.9% processing fee.
Sell a $2,000 card with no shipping or tax. The commission is capped at $100.00. Processing adds $58.00, and the order fee is $0.30. That leaves $1,841.70 for you.
Shipping, tax and eBay's own example
eBay shows its own example on the pricing page. A $100 item with $10 shipping and $8 tax makes a $118 total. Commission is $7.08, processing is $3.42, and the order fee is $0.30. That's $10.80 in fees.
Auctions work the same way. If an item starts at $1 and sells for $20, fees use the $20 plus shipping and tax. If you accept a lower offer, fees use the price you accepted.
The $0.10 order fee on cheap items
Cheap items get a deal until 31 December 2026. If an item is priced at $10 or less, eBay charges a $0.10 order fee instead of $0.30. A $10 item then costs you $0.99 in fees and you keep $9.01. The calculator already uses the lower fee at those prices.
eBay Live vs Whatnot fees
On a $50 item with no shipping or tax, eBay Live takes $4.75 and Whatnot takes $5.75 at its Standard tier. Both charge 2.9% plus $0.30 for processing. The difference is commission: eBay Live charges 6%, while Whatnot's Standard tier charges 8%.
Two things work the other way. eBay Live charges commission on shipping and tax, but Whatnot only charges it on the item. Whatnot's commission also falls as your 28-day sales grow. The Whatnot vs eBay comparison goes through this in more detail.
